THIS ^ is Chicago style pizza. Any other pizza claiming to be “deep dish” is a joke. It’s truly a “pizza pie”.
I went to Chicago last March for spring break and I had this ^ for the first time. Ever since, I’ve had overwhelming cravings for it. Unfortunately, no restaurants around Fargo-Moorhead make it.
If you’d like to try some for yourself, they actually will ship you a pizza (http://www.giordanos.com/shop/). However, I cannot justify paying $70 for a pizza. Instead, I decided to make my own.
While mindlessly searching amazon (where I purchase all presents, books, textbooks, etc), I found a chicago style pizza making kit. Without thinking, I posted a link to the item on Facebook. A few days later, one arrived in the mail. My father, who is a friend of mine on Facebook, saw the posting and ordered it for me. Best dad ever, right?
Tonight I set out to make my own Chicago style pizza. Following the recipe that came with the pizza pan, I made a pizza from scratch. My father, who is a baker, should be proud of me because I even made the dough, which takes way too long to rise. The pizza included fresh mushrooms, green peppers, and onions. Also, it had italian sausage, mozzarella, and romano cheese.
This ^ was my first attempt. It’s not the real thing, but way more authentic than any other Chicago style pizza around.
Not the best looking (or even tasting), but it’ll be even better next time! I’m sorry that many of you have been lied to about what Chicago style pizza is. If you’re ever in Chicago, try it.

I started it at about 5 and finally got to eat it at 8. I didn’t have the patience for it either… because it felt like it took forever to make.
I am glad you like it, and wtg on making the dough. : ) It really does look good, you will have to make it for us next time we visit.

The crust was too salty, but besides that it was really good.

I do have leftovers in the fridge, but I wouldn’t touch them. I’m just too lazy to toss them out. ;)
